A few days ago, I headed to to the Venice Canals for Amy and Ben’s engagement photos! I haven’t been to the area for a few years and forgot how gorgeous it is and how lucky we are to have a little taste of Europe right here in California :).
The Venice Canals were first built back in the early 1900s by a tobacco millionaire who wanted to drain out out the area + bring a some European nostalgia to the California coast. Most of the canals were filled in eventually, but there are still a couple and they make for the best engagement photo location! Talk about the best light, prettiest backdrop, and also close enough to Venice Beach so we can walk over for some ocean photos as well!
I love it when two totally different spots are close enough where we can hit both. Variation in your engagement photos while being super efficient! Woo!
Let’s get to the photos! Here are some of my favorites from their session!
Can you believe this next photo is right next to a busy town? The Venice Canals are great because they aren’t nearly as crowded as the beach area so you don’t get as many people in the background AND not as many people creepily watching you haha! After a little, we walked about 10 minutes over to the beach and caught the prettiest lighting as the sun was setting. A tip for beach sessions is to try to schedule your photos there to start in the last hour before the sun sets! That’s when you get that pretty soft glow and you can avoid extra harsh light.
